ABOUT MADISON

Madison McGain is a Brooklyn-based movement artist originally from Maui, Hawai'i. She has built a versatile freelance career on both the East and West Coasts. Her work has been presented at the School of Contemporary Dance & Thought (2026), Green Lung (2025), Safehouse Arts (2022), The CraftNY (2018), ArtsonSite (2021), the Museum of Art History (MAH) in Santa Cruz CA, among others. In 2021, Madison was the recipient of a Cultivate Grant from the Santa Cruz Arts Council, for her site-specific project, VOID, featuring a live, sound score by experimental musician, ordinary blood. Madison was a 2025 guest artist at The Sable Project in Stockbridge, Vermont and a 2026 guest choreographer at SEED with Adaptations Dance Theater. Madison has had the privilege of dancing for Taq Dance, Caitlin Adams, Randee Pauvfee, Erin Yen, and Fullstop Dance, Nicole Von Arx, KayCrudden Co, FlockWorks, Mizanty Moves Dance, Spaces of Fontana, and Adaptations Dance Theater, among others. She has performed at venues such as Austin Dance Festival (TX), Dixon Place (NY), Queens Theatre (NY), Wilson College (PA), Actors Art Fund (NY), Arts on Site (NY), Temple University (PA), and Stanford University (CA). Madison's teaching has brought her to institutions like Gibney Dance (NY), ODC (CA), Western Oregon University (OR) , Creature Space (NY), and Shawl-Anderson Dance Center (CA). 

ARTIST STATEMENT

Madison is committed to using dance as a means of illuminating fundamental human experiences, fostered by a deep willingness to be vulnerable and sincere in her practice. Her process and works are largely improvisation based. Madison aims to create an environment that reflects emotional responses resonating in the body, provoking viewers with questions and experiences that transcend any differential barriers that separate us from one another.
